Hello. Welcome to my portfolio site.
My name is Laura Rodriguez and I am a Graphic Designer based out of Charlotte, N.C.
I am
very passionate about the creative process and enjoy the challenges of my field. My designs
are simple, to the point, and use original concepts to convey the message. Enjoy!

Mode Design Firm Lecture
Poster, Illustration

This poster was promoting a lecture being given at Winthrop University by the graphic design firm Mode.
I created a visual representation of the lecture title with an illustration of a businessman's foot growing roots.

Sunset Park Elementary Graphic Standards Manual
Identity, Corporate, Book

This project required the re-design of a local elementary school's identity. This included their logo, business
card, letterhead, brochure, and website template. The goal was to make them more competitive by promoting
them as a science and technology magnet school; therefore the logo utilizes a magnifying glass to represent
the most basic scientific technology. It also pushed the idea of the focus being on "you", which became the
school slogan. I outlined all of the elements of their identity in this graphic standards manual to ensure a brand consistency in the future.

In Focus and Looking Good
Publication

This two spread article on vision problems was designed for a women's magazine. The title uses a
descending
type scale found on an eye chart to enforce the article's topic. The words increase in blurriness as they get smaller, making the reader feel like they are experiencing symptoms of bad vision.

Unkitsch Baker's Set
Identity, Packaging
I wanted to challenge myself by using graphic design to give the illusion of a high end product. I purchased a strainer, whisk, and glass bowl at a dollar store and created a baker's set package design that gives a costly impression.

Urban Nomad
Identity, Website
This functioning website informs people about the legendary Mole People who live under the streets of New
York City. It's called Urban Nomad because of how perfectly that describes their homeless lifestyle. I used
photography and atypical navigation to give a sense of this culture's unique perspective on city life.

Sawdust Caesars
Identity, Poster

For this project I developed a story line for a movie and then created an appropriate movie poster. The
character has many struggles throughout the film and his goal to become a "Sawdust Caesar" is foreshadowed
by his physical placement as the "A" in the title. To successfully complete this idea, I took original photography.

Larmer Tree Festival Mailer
Publication, Packaging
The Larmer Tree Festival is an annual music event that takes place in an exotic garden where peacocks roam free. This promotional mailer uses the layering of different materials to build a visual fusion of nature and music. In an effort to introduce the natural mood of the piece, the envelope was handmade out of a used paper bag.

Bird. Products
Identity, Packaging, Illustration
With bird feeding being a hobby that mainly caters to older people, I wanted to reach a new market by creating
a line of products that appealed to the younger generation. I went against the common natural aesthetic that is found in this genre and opted for bright, vectored imagery instead.
